About

My name is Jeff Brandt
, and this is my website. Launched in December 2008, JTBrandt.com contains my INK FIST blog plus various writings of mine from 2005 to the present.

Note: I don't view all these pieces as equal. Part of my interest in this site is to reflect on how my writing has changed. My favorite writings from each category are demarcated with a red star: *

I hope you enjoy looking around! Please feel free to contact me. I'm curious to read your opinions, positive or negative.

And now for more about myself . . .

I am a 24-year-old Class of 2009 graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I earned a Bachelor's in Creative Writing with minors in English and Cinema Studies. My final GPA was 3.91.

From June '09 to June '10, I assisted with marketing and public relations at a Big Brothers Big Sisters agency through Americorps VISTA. Over the summer, I taught 3rd, 4th, and 6th grade children fiction, poetry, and journal writing at SIUE Summer Writing camp.

My lifetime goal is to become a widely published author of fiction who is both rich and revered by all. For the meantime, I'm interested in careers involving writing, editing, communications, marketing, research, and public relations.

Deeper into the past . . .

I interned at Dalkey Archive Press from February 2007 to May 2009
as the web editor. I wrote more than 65 film reviews and other articles for buzz magazine and posted regularly on a DVD review blog, 2009: A Space Odyssey, at the217.com. I was editor-in-chief of Montage, the premier literary arts journal for U of I undergrads. In the summer of 2008, I interned as a reporter at the Telegraph in my hometown of Alton, Illinois.

Besides being a writer and film enthusiast, I am also interested in the
fine arts, public radio, comics, card and board games, and absurdist comedy.
